FirstCare was formed in 1991 as a healthcare management company that assists larger organizations in the staffing and management of specific departments. FirstCare’s work is primarily in the areas of rehabilitation and occupational medicine.
 

FirstCare’s rehab specialties include inpatient, outpatient, rehab hospital, pediatric, home health, and long-term acute care rehab.
 

FirstCare has a very experienced rehab staff. Just within one hospital system, our staff serviced:
 

Referrals from 500 different physicians, 3800 different patients, 60,000 patient visits, Over 48,000 hours of treatment
 

FirstCare is innovative.

We were the first in Porter County to provide:

Complete lymphedema program

In-patient orthopedic joint camp

Specialized aphasia treatment

Dysphagia therapy

Driving rehab

Pediatric Outpatient Rehab Facility

My favorite experience is seeing a
group of therapists working closely together to help the patients improve toward their goals. When 7-8 therapists are all in the clinic, the energy level is incredible. Patients learn from their therapist as well as the other patients.

FirstCare History
 

1991 Mariann Frigo OTR/L begins
providing occupational therapy services.
 

1992 Five other occupational therapists
join the FirstCare team providing services
for hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and home health agencies.
 

1992 FirstCare incorporates
 

1993 FirstCare provides pediatric services through home health, outpatient, and
school settings.
 

1994 FirstCare Hand & Rehab Center
opens in Merrillville.
 

1996 Physical therapy services are added
 

1998 FirstCare partners with Porter
Memorial Health Systems as their
preferred provider of occupational
therapy and speech therapy
 

1998 Jacob’s Ladder Pediatric Rehab
Center opens as the first “kids only” outpatient center in Porter County.
 

2000 FirstCare becomes the exclusive provider of rehab  services for Porter Memorial Health System
 

2000 Driving rehab and lymphedema
therapy programs are introduced
 

2001 FirstCare opens a new outpatient facility and grows to over 80 employees
 

2001 Recipient of Indiana University's "Growth 100" Award
 

2002 FirstCare becomes the exclusive provider of occupational, physical, and speech therapy for Porter County Visiting Nurses Association
 

2002 Recipient of Indiana University's "Growth 100" Award for a second year
 

2003 Winner of the "Small Business of

2004 FirstCare expands to include Occupational Medicine Services (NIOMS)
 

2005 FirstCare introduces Dysphagia Therapy – the only rehab group in Porter County to offer this service.
 

2005 FirstCare begins working with
Regency Hospital – a long term acute
care hospital.
 

2006 FirstCare partners with Doctor’s Hospital in Bremen, IN – an inpatient rehabilitation hospital.
 

2007 FirstCare partners with RiverCrest Hospital in Mishawaka, IN – an inpatient rehabilitation hospital.
